NSCDA-MN and History Day in Minnesota
Volunteer Opportunity! Judging for History Day takes place in late April and early May each year. If you are a Minnesota Dame interested in serving as one of four judges for our Topical Prizes, please contact us. You would be reviewing projects such as papers, websites, documentaries or performances. History Day Minnesota will provide training. You can review their information here. Dames who have served in the past have found it very rewarding!
NSCDA-MN continues to support students in the History Day program in Minnesota. We have created Topical Prizes in Pre-revolutionary War History such as “Breaking Barriers in American History Prior to 1776, when America Was Still a British Colony.” History Day is a competition for students in grades 7-12 to create projects - posters, papers, dramatic presentations, videos and more - that hone their research and critical thinking skills. Each year, the contest has a different theme. Students judged to have the best projects advance to the national competition in the Washington DC area. NSCDA-Minnesota has supported History Day financially every year since 2015, and provides two judges specifically for each prize we sponsor.
This year, judging will be held in April, ahead of the Minnesota State competition on April 27, 2025. The theme is Rights and Responsibilities in History and our two prizes, one in the Junior Division and one in the Senior Division, have the topic Ideals from America’s Founding Through Time. In honor of our nation’s 200th birthday, we have created an additional third topical prize for students in either category. Members can log in to see our 2024 winning projects here.
