In the fall of 2016, the Dames made a trip to Elk River, where the Oliver Kelley Farm is located on the banks of the Mississippi. Owned and operated by the Minnesota Historical Society, the farm is the homestead of Oliver Kelley, who founded the National Grange. The Grange was the first national farming organization. Oliver Kelley was passionate about developing new methods that would improve farming. The Dames were among the first to see the new Visitor Center and areas dedicated to modern farming. Visitors can compare modern farming to the carefully recreated farming methods from the 1850s and compare and contrast to learn about where our food comes from.
