2023 Scholarship Awards
In the spring of 2023, we awarded scholarships to the following students:
Omer Ali is from Ethiopia. In his home country, he was a health services professional. At the University of Minnesota, he is pursuing a degree in health service, research, policy and administration. His home country has a diverse population, with over 86 different languages being spoken. He hopes to return home and work in health policy, tailoring health policies to best assist the diverse cultural groups there.
Denisha Demeritte is from the Bahamas. She is studying public health, as she found that her skills are best suited to the health of a whole population. With her degree in epidemiology, she plans to return to the Bahamas and develop community interventions and preventive strategies that will benefit the health of people of Bahamas.
Sook-Young Park is from Seoul, South Korea. She is pursuing a doctorate in social work with a concentration in racial, ethnic socialization. She speaks about the resilience of the South Korean people, and hopes to help children without parents, particularly where there are no social safety nets in place to provide services to them.
